Welcome to the Blacktown and District Historical Society Inc.
Founded in 1976, the Blacktown and District Historical Society Inc. aims to help preserve the rich history of Blacktown and its surrounding areas. It publishes local history books and its journal, The Turret. It holds monthly meetings with a guest speaker, organises regular excursions and tours, and sends out information about its activities via a newsletter, Turret Talk, Facebook and Instagram.
Blacktown and District Historical Society Inc. respectfully acknowledges the Dharug People as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet.
We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continuing connection to Country, culture and community.
Who are we?
Since 1976, our Society has been bringing the Blacktown community together to celebrate, preserve and share the stories that shaped our region. From early settlers and local landmarks to everyday community memories, we’re passionate about keeping our history alive for future generations.
We meet monthly in a friendly, welcoming environment where members enjoy guest speakers, local stories, photo presentations and relaxed conversations about Blacktown’s past and present. We also host excursions and special events that connect us with the places and people that make our district unique.
Whether you’ve lived here your whole life, recently moved to the area, or simply have an interest in local history, you’re warmly invited to join us. Members stay connected through our monthly newsletter Turret Talk, our journal The Turret, and regular updates on Facebook.
Come along, meet like-minded locals, and be part of preserving our shared story.
