Neil Smith's message
On behalf of the Blacktown and District Historical Society, I warmly invite you to become part of our community.
Our Society is much more than a place to learn about history — it’s a place to connect with people who share a love of local history and heritage. Whether you’ve lived in the district for decades or have recently discovered an interest in our region’s past, you’ll find a welcoming and friendly group ready to share knowledge, memories and good conversation.
One of the things members value most is the relaxed and supportive social atmosphere at our monthly meetings. We enjoy engaging guest speakers, fascinating presentations and excursions — but just as importantly, we enjoy the friendships formed over a cup of tea and a chat. New members are always made to feel at home.
I encourage you to join us and become part of preserving and celebrating the story of Blacktown and its surrounds. We would be delighted to welcome you.
Warm regards, Neil Smith President Blacktown and District Historical Society Inc.
Our mission statement
Preserving Yesterday and Capturing Today for Tomorrow
We encourage the study of the history of Blacktown and elsewhere.
We promote the compilation of authentic records relating to Blacktown City
We maintain a collection of local history books, photos, relics and other materials relating to Blacktown City’s history.
We publish local history books, a Journal, The Turret, and aim to connect with the wider community through our webpage, Facebook and our other activities.
We promote the interchange of information among the members of our Society and our community through lectures, publications, tours and excursions. We attend local festivals and fairs and display our publications and local history information to our local community.
We co-operate with similar Societies elsewhere and the local history section of the Blacktown City Libraries and the Blacktown City Council ion order to attain our mission.
We do all such other things that are conducive or incidental to the attainment of our mission.
We are committed to protecting our local heritage, documenting our local history and sharing knowledge that connects the past, present and future generations.
Meet our committee
We warmly invite you to meet our dedicated committee — a passionate group of local volunteers who generously give their time, knowledge and enthusiasm to keep Blacktown’s history alive. Whether you are a lifelong resident or new to the area, you will find a welcoming and friendly atmosphere where stories are shared, friendships are formed, and community pride thrives.
